Geographic Area Officer (Professional) – Chuuk, FSM

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Geographic Area Officer (Professional) to support relief and reconstruction operations in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, following the impact of Super Typhoon Sinlaku. Reporting to the Chief of Mission and Head of Programme in Pohnpei, the officer will work closely with the Emergency Response Coordinator, Chuuk Head of Sub‑Office and Programme Managers to ensure effective delivery of humanitarian assistance.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor relief and emergency response activities across Chuuk’s islands.
• Facilitate implementation of IOM programmes in line with organisational policies, standards and the Compact agreement.
• Arrange logistics for the delivery of relief supplies, reconstruction materials and staff movements.
• Maintain liaison with government authorities, United States Government partners, NGOs and local communities.
• Prepare regular progress reports and ensure accurate documentation of activities.

Required profile

• Professional‑level experience in humanitarian or disaster‑relief programmes.
• Familiarity with the socio‑economic context of the FSM and island environments.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and in challenging field conditions.
• Strong coordination and communication skills with multiple stakeholders.
