Education Specialist Consultant – Curriculum Integration

About the role
The International Organization for Migration (IOM), together with FSM government partners, is seeking a Curriculum Integration Specialist Consultant to mainstream Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) into the national education system. The consultant will work closely with the Department of Education and other stakeholders to assess existing curricula, develop integration resources, and support training activities.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of current policies, curricula, and learning materials related to DRR and CCA in FSM.
- Review and build upon existing resources from CADRE, CADRE+, and other programmes.
- Identify gaps and opportunities for integrating resilience themes into primary school curricula.
- Facilitate multi‑stakeholder consultations and validation workshops at national and state levels.
- Develop an evidence‑based Action Plan and recommendations for curriculum integration, teacher training and resource development.
- Produce age‑appropriate, culturally relevant learning modules, teacher guides and training‑of‑trainers (ToT) packages.
- Prepare inception, assessment, workshop, Action Plan and final consultancy reports and present findings to partners.
- Undertake required travel within FSM.
Required profile
- Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Development, Climate Change, DRR, Social Sciences or related field with at least two years of relevant experience, OR a Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of experience.
- Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and education sector programming.
- Experience in Climate Change Adaptation, Disaster Risk Reduction, or resilience programming.
- Proven ability to facilitate multi‑stakeholder consultations and workshops.
- Experience working with government education authorities, preferably in the Pacific region or small island developing states.
- Knowledge of indigenous knowledge systems and community‑based approaches is an advantage.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages (Pohnpeian, Kosraean, Chuukese, Yapese) is desirable.
