Communications Officer (Professional)

About the role

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Communications Officer to support its disaster‑related displacement and resilience programmes in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. The role will contribute to IOM’s mission of promoting humane and orderly migration by delivering timely, accurate information to affected communities, partners and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and disseminate communication materials (briefings, press releases, social media content) related to preparedness, response and recovery activities.
• Coordinate with government agencies, NGOs and IOM teams to ensure consistent messaging during emergencies.
• Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, providing analysis to inform operational decisions.
• Support the organization of community outreach events, workshops and information sessions.
• Maintain records of communication activities and produce regular reports for senior management.

Required profile

• University degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
• Professional experience in communications, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to work in multicultural environments and under pressure.
• Strong written and oral English skills; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
